About the role#
As a Lab Engineer Intern at ANS, you will support our geotechnical engineering projects by conducting soil testing in our in-house laboratory. This role involves hands-on sample preparation, executing tests, and maintaining equipment. We are looking for interns who are ideally graduating by Fall 2025 or Spring 2026. This is a rolling internship with a four-month initial duration, and there is potential for extensions based on your performance. Candidates who show interest in the geotechnical field and are a good fit may be considered for full-time roles after graduation.
What you'll do#
- Process and prepare soil and rock samples upon receipt.
- Perform geotechnical tests following established ASTM or AASHTO protocols.
- Maintain and clean laboratory equipment, including washing reusable tools.
- Document test procedures, observations, and results with a focus on accuracy.
- Manage daily operations such as packaging field equipment, restocking supplies, and coordinating soil disposal.
- Follow all safety protocols to maintain a secure work environment.
What you'll need#
- Pursuing a degree in geology, civil engineering, environmental sciences, materials sciences, or a related field.
- Strong attention to detail for precise sample preparation and testing.
- Ability to communicate effectively with team members.
- Prior experience in a laboratory setting, specifically geotechnical or material testing, is a plus.
- Ability to stand and walk for 6 to 8 hours per shift.
- Ability to independently lift, move, push, and pull weights between 25 and 50 lbs.
- Frequent capacity for kneeling and squatting.
Location & details#
- This position is located on-site in South Plainfield, New Jersey.
- The schedule consists of 8-hour shifts, Monday through Friday, with occasional weekend work as needed.
- You may choose your own hours within the work week.
