About the role#
The Host Railroads Group negotiates arrangements with the railroads that own the tracks Amtrak uses. This team ensures that host railroads provide service that meets Amtrak expectations. As an intern, you will work on operations analysis and contract administration projects. You will interpret contract language and support the development of negotiating positions for future agreements.
What you'll do#
- Execute projects focused on operations analysis and contract administration.
- Update and maintain two multi-user contracts databases.
- Compile, distribute, and file agreement documents and electronic records.
- Assist in designing performance measurement reports.
- Support the development of negotiating positions for current or future Amtrak negotiations.
- Research, collect, and analyze data regarding on-time performance, revenue, and costs to make recommendations.
What you'll need#
- Active enrollment in a bachelor's or master's degree program in economics, business, or a quantitative discipline.
- Completion of at least two years of undergraduate studies or junior status.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Excel, Word, Outlook, and PowerPoint.
- Strong quantitative research and analytical skills.
- Ability to manage multiple priorities.
- Strong oral and written communication skills.

- Term: Fall 2026 or Winter 2027.
- Work Modality: On-site.
- Compensation: $18.00 to $35.00 per hour.
- Benefits: Includes Amtrak rail pass privileges and one PTO day per academic year.
