About the role#
AMT Engineering is hiring a Transportation Engineer Intern for the summer of 2027. This is a full-time, paid position based in our Richmond, Virginia office. You will work within our Transportation Engineering team, with an interest in roadway, traffic, or hydraulic design. This role runs from mid-June through mid-August 2027, with flexible start and end dates. There is potential for this internship to transition into a full-time role after you graduate.
What you'll do#
You will work under the supervision of Project Managers and Design Team Leaders. Your daily tasks include:
- Prepare design plans for roadways, trails, and sidewalks using Bentley OpenRoads Designer and Microstation.
- Create meeting exhibits and construction plans.
- Write Basis of Design reports and specifications.
- Identify utility conflicts and plan avoidance measures.
- Calculate quantities and develop cost estimates.
- Conduct site visits and field inspections.
- Complete other design tasks as assigned.
What you'll need#
- You must be at least 18 years old.
- You are a rising 3rd or 4th year student pursuing a Bachelor of Science in Civil Engineering.
- You hold a minimum GPA of 3.0.
- You have strong verbal and written communication skills.
- You possess solid technical and problem-solving abilities.
- You are detail-oriented and self-motivated.
- You are willing to take direction and work effectively in a team.
