About the role#
BrightEdge is the venture capital and impact investment arm of the American Cancer Society. We invest in early-stage companies creating new cancer-focused therapeutics, diagnostics, and health technologies. As a Venture Fellow, you will support our investment team by conducting due diligence on prospective companies and contributing to our investment strategy. This is a part-time position requiring 10 hours per week.
What you'll do#
- Support investment diligence by collecting data and reviewing scientific literature, clinical data, and intellectual property.
- Analyze competitive landscapes and industry trends to inform investment decisions.
- Synthesize your findings into reports and presentations for the investment team.
- Partner with our team to develop investment theses and identify emerging technologies.
- Build and maintain watch lists of oncology-focused startups.
- Help plan and execute BrightEdge events, including managing logistics and preparing materials.
- Engage with founders, researchers, and external stakeholders.
What you'll need#
- A Bachelor's degree and active pursuit of an advanced degree in an oncology-related field.
- Deep technical knowledge in life sciences or healthcare technologies, specifically cancer biology.
- Business experience in a startup, innovation, or venture capital setting.
- Ability to work as a self-starter with minimal oversight.
- Comfort with ambiguity and a flexible approach to changing priorities.
- Strong written and oral communication skills.
- Analytical mindset with high attention to detail.

- This role is remote.
- We are hiring in Massachusetts, New York, Connecticut, Texas, and Rhode Island.
- This is a paid, part-time fellowship.
- Employment is on a rolling basis.
