About the role#
Ameren Illinois is looking for a Meteorology Intern to join the Crisis Management team. You will gain hands-on experience applying meteorological principles to the electric utility industry. This role focuses on how weather intelligence supports operational decision-making, emergency preparedness, and storm response. You will work alongside professionals in crisis management and utility operations to monitor conditions and support situational awareness.
What you'll do#
- Monitor daily weather forecasts, watches, warnings, and advisories that may impact utility operations.
- Prepare daily weather briefings, storm outlooks, and situational awareness reports.
- Analyze forecast models, radar imagery, and meteorological data to identify potential operational impacts.
- Support weather monitoring during severe weather and emergency events.
- Assist with the enhancement of weather intelligence capabilities within the Ameren Illinois Crisis Management Dashboard and Athena AI platform.
- Research historical weather events and correlate weather information with outage data.
- Collaborate with team members across crisis management, emergency preparedness, and business continuity functions.
What you'll need#
- Currently pursuing a bachelor's or master's degree in Meteorology, Atmospheric Science, Climatology, Geography, Environmental Science, Emergency Management, or a related discipline.
- A basic understanding of weather forecasting principles and meteorological analysis.
- Familiarity with National Weather Service products, radar imagery, and forecast data.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications, including Excel, PowerPoint, and Teams.
- Strong analytical, communication, and organizational skills.
