About the role#
The ThinkBIG program is a two-year curriculum designed to help you earn an Associate in Applied Sciences degree while gaining hands-on experience. You will rotate between classroom instruction at Illinois Central College and practical work at an Altorfer branch. Each segment lasts eight weeks. This schedule repeats throughout the two-year program.
What you'll do#
You will attend courses covering technical subjects such as Fundamentals of Hydraulics, Caterpillar Engine Fuel Systems, and Fundamentals of Electrical Systems. You will also study Diagnostic Testing and Undercarriage/Final Drives. During your time at an Altorfer branch, you will perform shop duties. This includes walking, climbing on equipment, and lifting heavy parts. You may also spend time at a desk using a computer for email and administrative tasks.
What you'll need#
We look for individuals with a drive for a career in service technology. You should be a self-starter who works well in a team. Success in this role requires good time management, planning, and organizational skills. You must be detail-oriented and maintain an above-average grade point. Basic computer skills, including Microsoft Word, Excel, and Outlook, are required. You must have a High School Diploma or equivalent and a valid driver’s license. You must be able to lift 75-100lbs.
Location & details#
This internship is located in Davenport, Iowa. It is a full-time, paid position for Summer 2027. The work is on-site in a warehouse and shop environment. You will work Monday through Friday, from 7:30 am to 4:00 pm. Please note that safety equipment may be required while working in the shop.
