About the role#
Allen Lund Company is hiring an Accounting Intern to work in our Des Moines office. This is a hands-on, full-time, paid position that provides experience in corporate accounting, freight file settlement, and accounts receivable. You will work with branch leadership to manage real billing workflows and ensure carrier payments are accurate.
What you'll do#
- Review Bills of Lading and verify that loaded quantities match delivered cargo.
- Resolve discrepancies by working directly with freight brokers.
- Process carrier and third-party invoices, issue Comchecks, and handle quick pays.
- Balance freight files and forward necessary paperwork to corporate accounting.
- Assist with onboarding carrier partners and verify Certificates of Insurance.
- Perform reference checks on new partners.
- Input invoicing details for shippers and run weekly receivables reports.
- Handle accounts receivable inquiries and learn corporate collections.
- Collaborate with carriers and factoring companies to resolve accounts payable issues.
- Track delinquent Proof of Deliveries and manage uninvoiced files.
- Maintain filing systems and update customer platforms.
What you'll need#
- Current enrollment as an undergraduate or recent graduation in Accounting, Finance, Business Administration, or Supply Chain Management.
- Strong attention to detail and an analytical approach to matching numbers and verifying documents.
- Proficiency with spreadsheets, accounting platforms, and Google Workspace.
- Professional written and verbal communication skills for interacting with carriers, shippers, and internal teams.
- Ability to multitask and solve practical problems in a team environment.
