About the role#
Allen Lund Company is hiring an Accounting Intern for our Des Moines office. This is a paid, full-time, on-site role. You will work directly with branch leadership to handle financial operations, freight file settlement, accounts receivable, and carrier onboarding. This position offers a practical look at how financial processes support nationwide supply chain logistics.
What you'll do#
- Review Bills of Lading and verify that loaded quantities match delivered cargo.
- Resolve discrepancies with freight brokers and manage uninvoiced files.
- Process carrier and third-party invoices, issue Comchecks, and handle quick pays.
- Balance freight files and forward completed paperwork to corporate accounting.
- Assist with carrier onboarding by checking references and obtaining updated Certificates of Insurance.
- Input invoicing details for shippers and run weekly receivables reports.
- Handle accounts receivable inquiries and track delinquent Proof of Deliveries.
- Collaborate with factoring companies and brokers to resolve accounts payable issues.
- Maintain filing systems and update customer platforms.
What you'll need#
- Current enrollment in or recent graduation from an undergraduate program in Accounting, Finance, Business Administration, or Supply Chain Management.
- Strong attention to detail and an analytical approach to matching numbers and verifying documents.
- Digital literacy with comfort using spreadsheets, accounting platforms, and Google Workspace.
- Clear written and verbal communication skills for interacting with carriers, shippers, and internal teams.
- Ability to multitask and solve practical problems in a team setting.
