About the role#
The Foster Care Support Intern position provides educational experience in child welfare services, case management, and program logistics. You will work under supervision to support the Foster Care and In-Home DCS Program. This role is designed for students seeking academic credit to gain practical exposure to the foster care system and develop professional skills in a social services environment.
What you'll do#
- Observe and assist with client intakes, case documentation, and case file audits.
- Attend staff and case review meetings to take observation notes.
- Accompany staff on supervised visitations and assist with documentation.
- Help coordinate foster parent communications, trainings, and support services.
- Support staff with the organization of donation items, resource binders, and supplies.
- Handle administrative tasks including scanning, printing, filing, and preparing packets for home visits.
- Track and organize documentation for licensing or compliance.
- Assist with the delivery or pickup of documents, mail, or items between program sites.
What you'll need#
- Current enrollment in a college or university academic program in a related field.
- You must be seeking academic credit for this internship.
- A valid Class One Fingerprint Clearance Card is required before starting.
- Ability to pass a DES or DCS Central Registry background check.
- A time commitment of 10 to 20 hours per week.
- Strong organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to maintain reliable attendance and follow supervisor instructions.
- Adherence to organizational policies, professional standards, and mandated reporting requirements under Arizona statute A.R.S. § 13-3620.
- Physical ability to sit for extended periods and occasionally lift up to 25 lbs.

- This position is based in Mesa, Arizona.
- The work modality may be on-site, hybrid, or remote, depending on program needs and supervisor approval.
- This is an unpaid internship for academic credit.
