About the role#
WSP is seeking a full-time Structural Engineering Intern for our Transportation Bridge Team in Chicago. This 12-week summer program provides hands-on experience on real projects alongside senior staff. You will receive mentorship and networking opportunities through our Developing Professionals Network. Please note that there is no relocation or housing assistance provided for this position.
What you'll do#
- Support engineering tasks to build your technical, social, and ethical skills
- Learn basic principles of structural and bridge engineering
- Assist with project research, field work, and preliminary design calculations and analysis
- Help prepare final design plans, special provisions, and cost estimates
- Collect and maintain project documentation
- Complete assigned training modules
- Follow company policies, including the Code of Conduct, and make responsible decisions regarding resources
What you'll need#
- Active enrollment in an accredited undergraduate, masters, or PhD program in Civil or Structural Engineering
- An anticipated graduation date of December 2027, May 2028, or later
- Must be 18 years of age or older
- Authorization to work in the United States at the start of the internship
- Interest in bridge engineering and a desire to advance your skills
- Competent communication skills for both engineering and non-engineering audiences
- Ability to take direction from leadership and mentors
- Basic proficiency with technical writing, office software, and spreadsheets
- A record of upholding workplace safety and adherence to health and harassment policies
- Preferred experience includes structural analysis or finite element software, Mathcad, CADD, and prior internship or leadership involvement
