The Youth Fellow position supports refugee and immigrant students through the Refugee and Immigrant Youth Services (RIYS) team. This part-time, limited-term role involves 20 hours of work per week, with a hybrid schedule consisting of 70% in-office and 30% remote work. The fellow will contribute to program development and provide direct support to students and their families.
What you'll do#
- Work with the RIYS team to develop and implement youth services for refugee and immigrant students.
- Assist families with school registration, enrollment processes, and school entry meetings.
- Facilitate interpretation and translation for parent-teacher conferences and school communications.
- Support RIYS activities, including large group mentorship and youth tutoring.
- Coordinate transportation and engagement events to help families integrate into the school community.
- Serve on the Youth Advisory Council to provide input on program decision-making.
- Meet weekly with a supervisor for feedback and accountability.
- Manage program data and case notes using internal databases.
What you'll need#
- A mature and personal Christian faith, with the ability to affirm World Relief's Core Beliefs and Statement of Faith.
- A high school diploma or equivalent.
- A desire to serve and empower the Church to impact vulnerable communities.
- A demonstrated understanding of the refugee or immigrant experience.
- Preferred: Fluency in a language spoken by World Relief clients, experience as a student in RIYS or Durham Public Schools, and a valid North Carolina driver's license.
