About the role#
The Youth Fellow serves as a key member of the Refugee and Immigrant Youth Services (RIYS) team. This part-time role focuses on supporting refugee and immigrant students through academic programming, family advocacy, and case management. The fellow will contribute their unique perspective to help shape youth services and decision-making processes within the organization. This position is a limited-term role funded through June 30, 2027.
What you'll do#
- Collaborate with the RIYS team to develop and implement youth services for refugee and immigrant populations.
- Support families by assisting with school registration, enrollment, and ESL testing arrangements.
- Facilitate interpretation and translation for parent-teacher conferences and school communications.
- Participate in mentorship meetings, youth tutoring, and summer enrichment programs.
- Serve as a leader for the Youth Advisory Council to ensure student voices inform program development.
- Maintain accurate program data and case notes using internal databases.
- Meet weekly with your supervisor for feedback, accountability, and planning.
What you'll need#
- A mature and personal Christian faith, with a commitment to the mission and core beliefs of World Relief.
- A High School Diploma or equivalent.
- A demonstrated understanding of the refugee or immigrant experience through lived experience or professional work.
- A desire to serve and empower the Church to impact vulnerable communities.
- Strong communication skills, with fluency in a language spoken by World Relief clients being highly preferred.
- A valid North Carolina driver's license.
Location & details#
- This position is based in Durham, North Carolina.
- The role is hybrid, consisting of 70% in-office work and 30% remote work.
- This is a part-time position scheduled for 20 hours per week.
