About the role#
This paid, ten-week internship offers firsthand insight into the insurance industry. You will work within the Westfield Specialty underwriting team to gain experience in daily operations, product knowledge, and decision-making processes. The program runs from June 7th to August 13th, 2027, and includes classroom training, a formal mentorship program, and weekly meetings with senior leaders.
What you'll do#
- Support underwriting teams with research, data analysis, and risk assessment.
- Assist with the evaluation of complex or non-standard insurance applications.
- Research industry-specific risks, emerging trends, and exposures for specialty lines.
- Prepare underwriting files, including risk summaries, coverage recommendations, and pricing justifications.
- Organize documentation such as loss runs, financial statements, and supplemental forms.
- Conduct competitor analysis and benchmark coverage options.
- Compile data to help develop underwriting strategies and guidelines.
- Attend team meetings and shadow underwriters on client calls or risk reviews.
- Participate in training sessions on specialty products, underwriting systems, and risk modeling tools.
- Stay updated on niche markets, policy forms, and regulatory requirements.
What you'll need#
- Current enrollment in a Bachelors or Masters degree program at a 4-year college or university.
- Minimum GPA of 3.2.
- Strong oral and written communication skills.
- Technical aptitude and digital literacy.
- Preferred: Leadership experience through work, community service, athletics, or clubs.
- Majors: Business Administration, Finance, Economics, Mathematics, or Statistics.
