About the role#
This is a full-time, paid internship for Summer 2027. You will work within the software engineering team to refine the performance and decision-making capabilities of the Waymo Driver. Interns work directly with industry leaders on projects that contribute to our autonomous driving technology.
What you'll do#
- Analyze clusters of driving behaviors observed in autonomous vehicles.
- Build tools and automated pipelines to improve how the system responds to undesirable events in the field.
- Test new ideas to increase the precision of signals that detect specific driving behaviors.
- Create signals to quantify overall driving performance.
What you'll need#
- Current enrollment in a graduate program (Master's or PhD) for Computer Science, Software Engineering, or a related technical field.
- Proficiency in Python and C++.
- Data fluency with basic skills in SQL or Python for analysis.
- Experience with training and evaluating Machine Learning models is preferred.
- Experience prototyping agentic systems is preferred.
- Experience with C++ and large-scale distributed systems is preferred.
Location & details#
- Location: Mountain View, California.
- Modality: Hybrid and on-site.
- Compensation: $70 per hour for Master's students and $85 per hour for PhD students.
