About the role#
This is a full-time, paid internship for the Summer of 2027. You will join our Systems Engineering team to focus on pedestrian detection precision within our autonomous vehicle stack. This position is based in San Francisco and follows a hybrid work model.
What you'll do#
- Determine and author requirements and verification items for detection models covering pedestrians near Waymo vehicles.
- Collect and analyze data from existing logs or structured tests to test requirements and identify false-positive clusters.
- Run evaluations and triage results to track performance and identify release-over-release changes.
- Build an evaluation framework to highlight areas with performance headroom and assist Perception teams with improvements.
What you'll need#
- Current enrollment in a PhD program in a technical field such as Engineering, Physics, or Computer Science.
- Strong software engineering fundamentals.
- Familiarity with systems engineering, specifically the logical flow from requirements to tests.
- Experience handling large data sets using tools like SQL or Python.
- Ability to automate test flows.
- Understanding of autonomous vehicle stacks, including sensor data pipelines.
- Experience or knowledge related to the autonomous vehicle industry or similar automation fields.
