About the role#
This internship connects the Student National Medical Association and Vot-ER. You will support the Deputy Director of Partnerships to deepen relationships with health institutions across the country. This role focuses on expanding organizational ties, onboarding new partners, and managing the Emergency Patient Voting program. You will work 15 to 20 hours per week for academic credit.
What you'll do#
- Support the Deputy Director of Partnerships in maintaining high-touch communication with existing partners.
- Identify and bring in new health-related organizations to expand our national footprint.
- Organize and train health professional students to facilitate voting access for patients facing unexpected hospitalization.
- Create patient-facing educational materials and bedside toolkits for the emergency ballot request process.
- Prepare and execute mobilization strategies and communications for Civic Holidays like National Voter Registration Day.
What you'll need#
- You must be an active member of the Student National Medical Association.
- You must provide documentation from your institution confirming you will receive course credit for this internship.
- Exceptional written and verbal communication skills are required.
- You must demonstrate the ability to work independently in a remote environment.
- A commitment to racial equity and inclusion is essential.
- Acute attention to detail and the ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously.
- Comfort admitting what you do not know and using feedback as a learning tool.

- This is a remote role.
- The internship spans Summer 2026 and Fall 2026.
- This position is unpaid and requires academic credit.
- Preferred majors include Public Health, Political Science, Health Administration, Communications, Sociology, or Psychology.

Vot-ER is a nonprofit organization that integrates civic engagement into healthcare settings. It operates in over 500 hospitals and clinics. The organization helps patients and staff register to vote. It was founded in 2020 and currently employs 33 people.
