About the role#
The Virginia Department of Transportation offers a paid summer internship program for students interested in public service. This role provides practical work experience by integrating academic theory with day-to-day business operations. Interns work on various projects to support the needs of the organization. Depending on performance and business requirements, there may be potential to extend the internship into the academic year.
What you'll do#
- Provide administrative support services to assigned program areas.
- Research and compile data to prepare reports and presentations for projects.
- Recommend solutions to business or administrative problems to improve program effectiveness.
- Take responsibility for special projects and assignments while managing deadlines.
What you'll need#
- Current full-time enrollment in an Associate’s degree program or higher.
- Status as at least a rising sophomore.
- Minimum age of 18 by the start of employment.
- Ability to maintain full-time student status before and after the internship.
- Knowledge of business principles, office procedures, and Microsoft Office, including Word, Excel, and Access.
- Ability to analyze data, communicate effectively, and interpret policies or regulations.
- Preference for candidates with training or education in Business, Accounting, or related fields.

- Employment type: Full-time, hourly/wage position.
- Note: This position does not include health insurance, retirement, or paid leave. All roles require pre-employment screenings, including a criminal history background check, DMV record check, work history verification, references, a physical, and a drug screen.
