About the role#
Varda Space Industries is hiring for a Thermal Engineering Internship. This is a full-time, paid, on-site role based in El Segundo, California. The internship is available for Summer 2027 and Winter 2027 terms. You will join the thermal team to develop vehicle thermal models, generate temperature predictions, and design hardware for flight vehicles.
What you'll do#
- Support thermal vacuum (TVAC) test campaigns through setup, execution, and data collection.
- Build and contribute to thermal models for spacecraft components and systems.
- Use Python and MATLAB to analyze thermal data from flight and ground tests.
- Manage the design, procurement, testing, and validation of thermal hardware.
- Assist with integration and test (I&T) activities for thermal subsystems.
- Work with mechanical and systems teams to ensure all thermal requirements are met.
What you'll need#
- Current enrollment in an accredited undergraduate or graduate program in Mechanical, Aerospace, or a related engineering field.
- Completed coursework in thermodynamics, heat transfer, fluid mechanics, and data processing.
- Experience or coursework using thermal analysis software like Thermal Desktop or Ansys.
- Proficiency in CAD tools such as NX, AutoCAD, or PTC.
- Comfort with data analysis using MATLAB and Python.
- Prior relevant experience through a lab, project team, or previous thermal internship.
- Must be a U.S. person (U.S. citizen, lawful permanent resident, or protected individual).
