About the role#
The Environmental Health & Safety (EHS) team keeps Varda operations safe and compliant. You will work on projects that identify and mitigate hazards across spacecraft and pharmaceutical production. This internship offers the chance to work alongside experienced aerospace professionals on technical and operational challenges.
What you'll do#
- Lead Job Hazard Analyses (JHAs) across engineering, manufacturing, and pharmaceutical operations to identify risks and develop mitigation strategies.
- Manage the safe handling of hazardous chemicals through the Hazard Communication (HazCom) and Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) programs.
- Maintain environmental compliance by guiding departments in the proper accumulation and disposal of hazardous waste.
- Conduct maintenance and inspections for safety systems and equipment, including emergency eyewashes, showers, and fire suppression systems.
- Assist with emergency preparedness and response, including site emergency action plans and safety drills.
What you'll need#
- Current enrollment in an undergraduate or graduate degree program in occupational safety & health, environmental engineering, mechanical engineering, chemical engineering, public health, biomedical engineering, or a related field.
- Strong analytical, communication, and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to manage multiple priorities independently.
- Familiarity with regulatory EHS standards such as Cal/OSHA, Cal/EPA, RCRA, and DOT is preferred.
- Hands-on experience with risk assessments or prior EHS internship experience in an engineering or laboratory setting is a plus.

- Location: El Segundo, California.
- Term: Spring 2027 (January through May).
- Modality: Full-time and on-site.
- Compensation: $33.00 per hour.
- Note: This position requires the candidate to be a U.S. person as defined by ITAR regulations.
