Unum Scholar Intern- Portland, ME

About the role#

This is a year-round, paid internship providing transactional support across various business functions, including operations, strategy, project management, and stakeholder engagement. Interns gain professional experience in the insurance industry while working in a collaborative, office-based environment. This position requires a minimum nine-month commitment and availability of at least 15 hours per week during regular business hours (Monday–Friday, 8am–5pm), with the potential to work up to 40 hours during school breaks.

What you'll do#

• Provide high-quality transactional support with a focus on productivity, accuracy, and customer service.
• Develop and maintain effective partnerships across various departments.
• Function as a team player by supporting peers, addressing conflict constructively, and engaging in feedback.
• Adhere strictly to all privacy guidelines.
• Manage project-based or task-based work independently and prioritize effectively in a deadline-driven environment.

What you'll need#

• Current enrollment in an accredited four-year college or MBA program, with a preference for students who have completed at least two years of coursework.
• A minimum GPA of 3.0 (either in major or overall).
• Proficiency in Microsoft Word and Excel.
• Strong critical thinking, analytical, and time management skills.
• Ability to work independently and demonstrate openness to mastering new tasks.
• Strong written and oral communication skills.
• Majors preferred include Business Administration, Economics, Finance, Marketing, or Communications.
