    About the role#

    The Department of Astronomy at the University of Virginia is hiring a part-time Office and Public Outreach Administrative Assistant. This role supports the Dark Skies, Bright Kids semester clubs. You will split your time between office tasks and outreach work at local elementary schools.

    What you'll do#

    • Perform general office duties including the use of computers, copiers, fax machines, and email.
    • Assist with the coordination and delivery of astronomy clubs at local elementary schools.
    • Transport and lift totes of supplies required for club activities.
    • Travel to elementary school sites for program work, with transportation provided by the department.

    What you'll need#

    • Federal Work Study eligibility as a UVA student.
    • A strong interest in working within a school environment.
    • The ability to maintain a consistent weekly work schedule.
    • Previous experience working with elementary-aged children is preferred.
    • Successful completion of a background check prior to starting the position.
    • Majors in Psychology, Communications, History, Sociology, or Human Resources are welcome to apply.

    • Location: Charlottesville, Virginia.
    • Modality: On-site.
    • Term: Fall 2026 (August 25, 2026, through May 14, 2027).
    • Compensation: $15 per hour.
