About the role#
The Social Media Assistant Student Clerk supports the Communications team at the University of Iowa Center for Advancement. You will help grow our online presence and support alumni and donor engagement through digital strategy and creative storytelling. This position provides practical experience in social media management using tools like Meta Business Suite, YouTube, Adobe Workfront, Microsoft Suite, Google Analytics, and CapCut.
What you'll do#
- Create social media content and assist with new engagement strategies.
- Research peer institutions to identify best practices.
- Manage and schedule content using native publishing tools.
- Support the Social Hawks ambassador program, including email creation and testing.
- Assist with creative production by sourcing images, editing video, and filming content.
- Collaborate with the Iowa Magazine team on storytelling projects.
- Attend weekly meetings to brainstorm and share ideas.
What you'll need#
- Current enrollment as a University of Iowa student, taking at least 12 credit hours during fall and spring semesters.
- Strong writing skills and the ability to apply feedback to your work.
- High accuracy, productivity, and the ability to work independently.
- Good communication skills and a collaborative mindset.
- Previous experience with social media content creation is preferred.
- Majors in Communications, Marketing, Journalism, Graphic Design, or Media Studies.
- Submission of 1-3 writing samples or stories that demonstrate your writing ability.
Location & details#
- Location: Iowa City, Iowa.
- Schedule: 10-20 hours per week, Monday through Friday between 7:30 a.m. and 4:30 p.m.
- Modality: On-site.
- Term: Rolling, available until graduation.
