About the role#
The California Department of Public Health is hiring a Student Assistant to provide IT support at their Richmond Laboratory Campus. This position offers exposure to new technologies within both office and laboratory settings. You will work as part of a team to maintain hardware and software systems for programs and laboratories on the 29-acre site.
What you'll do#
- Install, configure, and image new computer hardware.
- Install, configure, and troubleshoot software, including the Microsoft family of products like OS, Office, and Teams.
- Set up and configure state-issued and personal mobile devices.
- Provide general technical support for campus software and assist remote users.
- Troubleshoot network equipment and servers.
- Document procedures and create training guides for tasks.
- Provide administrative and clerical support as needed.
What you'll need#
- Current enrollment in an accredited college or university with a declared major in Computer Information Systems, Engineering, or Information Technology.
- Minimum enrollment of six-semester units or nine quarter units for undergraduates, or four-semester units or six quarter units for graduate students.
- Strong analytical skills and the ability to learn quickly.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
- Good customer service skills and effective verbal and written communication.
- Ability to maintain consistent attendance and adhere to departmental policies.
Location & details#
- Location: Richmond, California.
- Work Modality: On-site.
- Schedule: Flexible hours between 8 AM and 5 PM, Monday through Friday. You may work up to 24 hours per week during the academic year and up to 40 hours during breaks.
- Compensation: $20.00 to $22.00 per hour.
- Employment Status: Part-time, temporary, non-benefited position.
