About the role#
University Enterprises, Inc. is hiring a Student Assistant to support the Research and Standards Program within Cal/OSHA. This role focuses on building a defensible framework to identify high-hazard health and safety risks. You will work in a hybrid environment based in Oakland, California. This is a part-time, temporary position.
What you'll do#
- Design and implement a methodology for generating high-hazard health and safety lists.
- Conduct literature reviews and develop research methodologies.
- Perform data gap analysis and manage database development.
- Develop and refine statistical models to integrate multiple datasets.
- Build and automate reproducible data pipelines using Python, R, and SQL.
- Design and maintain relational and non-relational databases.
- Optimize ETL processes to integrate structured and unstructured data from various sources.
- Implement quality assurance protocols, including validation checks, data audits, and error handling.
- Provide domain expertise in occupational health and safety.
What you'll need#
- Proof of enrollment in an accredited college or university program on the affiliation list.
- Minimum enrollment of six-semester or nine-quarter units for undergraduates, or four-semester or six-quarter units for graduate students.
- Current major in Data Science, Computer Science, Mathematics, Sociology, Economics, or a related field.
- Graduate students are preferred, though well-qualified undergraduates will be considered.
- Experience with Python, R, and SQL is preferred.
- Domain knowledge or prior experience in occupational safety and health is preferred.
Location & details#
- Location: Oakland, California. You must reside and perform all work within the state of California.
- Modality: Hybrid.
- Schedule: Flexible hours between 8 AM and 5 PM, Monday through Friday. Generally up to 24 hours per week during the academic year and up to 40 hours per week during breaks.
- Compensation: $18.27 to $33.52 per hour.
