About the role#
Turner Construction Company is hiring a Safety Intern for the Summer 2027 term in Sacramento, California. This is a full-time, paid, on-site position. You will work alongside our teams to support safety and loss control efforts on active construction projects.
What you'll do#
- Help implement the project safety program and the Living Injury Free Everyday initiative.
- Identify and report safety violations or unsafe practices.
- Coordinate safety duties for committees, preplanning meetings, and tool box talks.
- Assist with worker orientation programs and safety training sessions.
- Review subcontractor safety programs for policy compliance.
- Administer the drug screening program.
- Maintain safety records, including incident investigations, training logs, and chemical inventories.
- Conduct jobsite and work area inspections.
- Assist with preconstruction meetings and project research.
- Document meetings and track safety metrics.
What you'll need#
- Enrollment in an accredited degree program for Occupational Safety and Health, Engineering, or a related field, with at least one year of completed education.
- A desire to learn about construction management and the industry.
- Proficiency with the Microsoft Office suite and general data entry.
- Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
- Ability to communicate clearly in both verbal and written forms.
- Proactive mindset with the ability to work independently or as part of a team.
- Demonstrated interpersonal skills through leadership, volunteerism, or community involvement.
- Ability to work standard business hours and overtime as needed.
- Access to reliable transportation.
