About the role#
Turner Construction Company is hiring a Safety Intern for the Summer 2027 term. This is a full-time, paid, on-site position based in the Northern California Bay Area. You will support our safety and loss control initiatives while gaining hands-on experience in the construction industry.
What you'll do#
- Assist with implementing the Building L.I.F.E. program and project safety standards.
- Identify and report safety violations or unsafe practices on-site.
- Coordinate safety duties for committees, preplanning meetings, and tool box talks.
- Help organize and conduct worker orientation programs and safety training sessions.
- Review subcontractor safety programs to ensure they meet company and regulatory requirements.
- Conduct jobsite inspections and help document findings.
- Maintain safety records, including incident investigations, training logs, and chemical inventories.
- Assist with the administration of the drug screening program.
- Support preconstruction meetings and perform research tasks as directed by your supervisor.
What you'll need#
- Current enrollment in an accredited degree program for Occupational Safety and Health, Engineering, or a related field.
- Completion of at least 1 year of education or equivalent experience.
- Basic understanding of safety and environmental principles.
- Strong organizational skills and high attention to detail.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office and standard collaboration tools.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
- Clear verbal and written communication skills.
- Proactive mindset and a desire to learn about construction management.
- Flexibility to work standard business hours and overtime as needed.
- Access to reliable transportation.
Location & details#
This role is located in the San Francisco Bay Area, with project sites in San Francisco, Walnut Creek, and San Jose. You must be physically able to navigate construction environments, including climbing stairs and ladders, and be comfortable working in areas with moderate to loud noise, moving mechanical parts, and varying weather conditions.
