About the role#
As a Safety Intern at Turner Construction Company, you will support our project teams in maintaining safe work environments. This role focuses on loss control and safety management within our construction operations. You will work under the direction of a supervisor to ensure compliance with company policies and safety regulations.
What you'll do#
- Help implement the Building L.I.F.E. program and other project safety initiatives.
- Identify and report safety violations or unsafe practices on site.
- Coordinate safety committees, preplanning meetings, and tool box talks.
- Assist with training sessions, orientations, and worker onboarding.
- Review subcontractor safety programs for completeness and policy compliance.
- Conduct jobsite inspections and document findings.
- Maintain essential safety records, including incident metrics, training logs, and chemical inventories.
- Support the administration of the drug screening program.
- Perform research and assist with preconstruction meeting preparation.
What you'll need#
- Enrollment in an accredited degree program for Occupational Safety and Health, Engineering, or a related field.
- At least one year of completed education or equivalent experience.
- Basic understanding of safety and environmental principles.
- A strong interest in construction management and the industry.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office and standard collaboration tools.
- Clear verbal and written communication skills.
- Ability to work both independently and within a team.
- High attention to detail and organizational habits.
- Proactive attitude and a willingness to learn quickly.
- Professional accountability for your own work.
- Ability to climb stairs, ladders, and navigate active construction areas.
- Access to reliable transportation.

- Travel: Minimal travel may be required (0-10%).
- Physical requirements: Ability to work in construction environments with exposure to varying weather, noise levels, and heights, and the ability to lift up to 25 pounds.
