About the role#
Turner Construction Company is hiring a Safety Intern for the Summer 2027 term in Toledo, Ohio. This is a full-time, paid, on-site position. You will assist in activities related to safety and loss control at construction project sites or office locations under the direction of a supervisor.
What you'll do#
- Implement the Building L.I.F.E. program and project safety initiatives.
- Identify and report safety violations or unsafe practices, specifically situations of imminent danger.
- Coordinate safety duties for committees, preplanning meetings, and tool box meetings.
- Facilitate training sessions during safety meetings, orientations, and tool box talks.
- Review subcontractor safety programs to ensure they meet company policies and compliance standards.
- Promote safe work practices in accordance with Federal, State, and local regulations.
- Administer the drug screening program, including pre-employment, post-accident, and random screenings.
- Conduct jobsite inspections and develop inspection summaries.
- Maintain safety records such as Job Hazard Analyses, training logs, incident investigations, and OSHA 300 logs.
- Conduct worker orientation programs for new employees.
- Assist with preconstruction meetings and perform research as directed.
What you'll need#
- Enrollment in an accredited degree program in Occupational Safety & Health, Engineering, or a related field.
- At least 1 year of completed education or an equivalent combination of training and experience.
- Basic knowledge of safety and environmental principles.
- A desire to learn about the construction industry and construction management.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office and general data entry.
- Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
- Ability to work independently and within a team environment.
- Clear verbal and written communication skills.
- Access to reliable transportation.
- Flexibility to work standard business hours and overtime as assigned.

- Physical requirements include the ability to climb stairs and ladders, navigate construction work areas, and lift up to 25 pounds. You will be exposed to outdoor weather conditions, moving mechanical parts, and varying noise levels on job sites.
