About the role#
This internship provides an opportunity to apply academic knowledge to real-world business scenarios within the construction industry. You will build foundational knowledge in operational finance, including training on accounting fundamentals, project finance concepts, and financial systems. You will work from a Turner office or a construction job site during the summer of 2027.
What you'll do#
- Participate in the structured Intern Program and coordinate with supervisors to manage your time and deliverables.
- Apply Turner financial accounting processes, including construction accounting principles, earnings, and revenue recognition.
- Follow company policies related to financial reporting, data governance, and confidentiality.
- Review billing details against client contracts and verify invoice backup for accounts receivable.
- Assist with validating project cost coding and comparing expenses to project structures.
- Support the Shared Services Organization with invoice processing and verify the status of vendor and subcontractor accounts.
- Monitor project cash flow, including billings, collections, and payments, and prepare payments held reports.
- Assist with budget analysis and reallocate costs through journal entries.
- Support under and overbilling analysis.
- Contribute to process improvement initiatives and prepare ad hoc analyses or presentations.
- Share periodic progress updates with your supervisor.
What you'll need#
- Enrollment in an accredited 2- or 4-year degree program in Accounting, Finance, or a related field.
- At least 1 year of completed coursework or equivalent experience.
- Must be at least 18 years old to work at a construction project site.
- Willingness to work a standard work week.
- Basic understanding of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP).
- Strong interpersonal skills developed through leadership, community activities, or campus involvement.
- Ability to take direction, ask questions, and follow tasks through to completion.
- High level of organization and attention to detail.
- Clear verbal and written communication skills.
- Proactive and self-motivated approach to learning.
- Ability to work both independently and as part of a team.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office, specifically intermediate Excel skills.
- Familiarity with collaboration tools like Teams and SharePoint.
