    About the role#

    This internship offers an opportunity to gain hands-on experience in bridge design within the Surface Transportation department. You will work alongside professional engineers and technicians to support transportation infrastructure projects for the Department of Transportation, local agencies, and design-build contractors. The program includes formal software training, networking events, mentorship, and learning seminars.

    What you'll do#

    • Assist with the design of highway, railroad, and pedestrian bridges.
    • Support the design of retaining walls.
    • Produce final plans, technical specifications, and cost estimates.

    What you'll need#

    • Current enrollment in an undergraduate Bachelor degree program in Civil Engineering.
    • Interest in bridge design and structural engineering.
    • Experience or training with Microstation, MathCAD, STAAD, or Geopak.
    • Proficiency in Microsoft Office, including Excel, Word, and Outlook.
    • Strong verbal and written communication skills and the ability to work well in a team.
    • Preferred: Coursework related to structural design, understanding of drafting techniques, and experience developing construction plans.

    • Location: Bloomington, Minnesota.
    • Term: Summer 2027 (May 25 through August 13).
    • Schedule: Full-time, 40 hours per week.
    • Modality: On-site with potential for hybrid arrangements.
