    About the role#

    This internship provides an opportunity to work within our Surface Transportation department during the summer of 2027. You will work alongside engineers, designers, and technicians to develop transportation infrastructure. You will be paired with a professional engineer or hydrologist to gain practical experience in the field. The role is based in Bloomington, Minnesota, and runs from May 25 to August 13, 2027. You will work 40 hours per week with occasional overtime.

    What you'll do#

    • Assist with the design, modeling, and plan development of storm water drainage systems.
    • Support the preparation of technical reports and project specifications.
    • Engage in team discussions and ask questions to grow your technical understanding.
    • Participate in the structured internship program, which includes software training, learning seminars, and networking events.

    What you'll need#

    • Current enrollment in a bachelor’s degree program for civil engineering, with a focus on water resources, hydrology, or hydraulics.
    • Experience or training in CADD software, specifically Microstation and AutoCAD.
    • Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to communicate clearly in verbal and written forms.
    • Preferred experience with GIS and drainage software such as SWMM, P8, or HEC programs.
    • Familiarity with MnDOT design and plan standards is a plus.
