About the role#
This internship provides an opportunity to apply classroom theory to real-world industrial operations. You will work on-site at our facility in Ft. Madison, Iowa, supporting the engineering team with facility updates, project management, and operational improvements. This is a full-time, paid position with a rolling term.
What you'll do#
- Update facility drawings using CAD software after performing field verification of as-built conditions.
- Create and revise Standard Operating Procedures to maintain safety and efficiency.
- Conduct steam trap surveys, find compressed air leaks, and lead equipment labeling initiatives.
- Manage minor projects from start to finish.
- Propose new facility layouts and identify equipment improvements.
- Coordinate with external contractors during site walk-throughs and installations.
- Interface with suppliers to troubleshoot instrumentation and secure technical data or quotes.
- Analyze data from our CMMS and utility systems to identify cost-saving opportunities.
- Assist in the execution of major capital projects and installations.
What you'll need#
- Current enrollment in a Mechanical, Electrical, Industrial, or Chemical Engineering degree program or a related technical field.
- Proficiency in CAD software.
- A field-first mentality, including comfort working on the plant floor.
- Strong interpersonal skills to communicate with internal teams and external vendors.
- Natural curiosity for how mechanical and electrical systems function.
- Familiarity with Microsoft Excel for data analysis is preferred.
