About the role#
As a Reporting Intern, you will gain hands-on newsroom experience by reporting stories for Utah communities. This is a 10-12 week paid position. You will learn the fundamentals of professional news production while working alongside experienced journalists. The role is hourly and non-benefitted. We can structure this as a full-time position or accommodate a 20-30 hour-per-week schedule to fit your academic commitments. Interns may be assigned night or weekend work.
What you'll do#
- Pitch, report, and write stories for our website and print editions.
- Assist with breaking news coverage and quick-turn stories.
- Conduct interviews, gather documents, and perform basic research.
- Collaborate with editors to revise and strengthen your work.
- Contribute ideas during team meetings and participate in newsroom discussions.
- Follow ethical journalism standards and our internal reporting guidelines.
What you'll need#
- A basic understanding of news standards, ethics, and impartiality.
- Strong writing and communication skills with a grasp of storytelling elements.
- The ability to work independently and meet deadlines.
- Previous experience reporting for a college newsroom or local publication.
- Enrollment in a college journalism program is preferred, though not required.

- This role is based in Salt Lake City, Utah, with hybrid work options.
- Pay is $20.00 per hour.
- Mileage reimbursement is provided when applicable.
- We provide performance evaluations if required for school credit.
