About the role#
Davey Resource Group is looking for a Stormwater Environmental Technician Intern for the Winter 2027 term in South St. Paul, Minnesota. This full-time, on-site position offers hands-on experience in stormwater compliance, maintenance, and inspections. You will work alongside experienced professionals to gain real-world knowledge in data collection, regulatory policy, and construction-related environmental compliance.
What you'll do#
- Assist with NPDES stormwater compliance inspections, maintenance, and reporting under supervision.
- Review and support Stormwater Pollution Prevention Plans (SWPPPs) to evaluate site compliance.
- Inspect erosion and sediment control best management practices on field sites.
- Support project documentation, track inspection schedules, and log corrective actions.
- Shadow technicians during client and agency interactions to learn industry standards.
- Coordinate with contractors, project managers, and operations staff to ensure stormwater measures are properly installed and maintained.
- Communicate compliance findings, deficiencies, and corrective actions to field crews and clients.
- Prepare inspection reports, compliance logs, and regulatory correspondence.
- Coordinate with local, state, and federal agencies regarding NPDES and erosion control.
- Build familiarity with local, state, and federal water permitting and regulations.
What you'll need#
- Pursuing a degree in Biology, Botany, Ecology, Forestry, Geology, Hydrology, Soil Science, Zoology, Environmental Science, or Civil/Environmental Engineering.
- Interest in stormwater management, water quality, and outdoor field work.
- Valid driver’s license and a clean driving record.
- Basic coursework or familiarity with environmental compliance, hydrology, or soil science.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office or Google Suite and the ability to learn company-specific compliance platforms.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
- Time management skills and the ability to follow safety guidelines.
- Knowledge of state or industry stormwater/erosion control certifications is preferred.
- Willingness to perform construction-related work on active job sites is preferred.
