About the role#
We are looking for interns to join our Manufacturing Engineering teams for the Winter and Spring 2027 terms. You will work on projects related to Battery, Power Electronics, Charging, Drive Unit, or Motor Manufacturing. This is a full-time, on-site internship requiring a minimum commitment of 12 weeks. You must be actively enrolled in an academic program to participate.
What you'll do#
- Develop and engineer new processes and high-volume automation equipment.
- Collaborate with internal Product Design, Operations, Facilities, Production, and Quality Engineering teams.
- Coordinate cross-functional design activities with tool vendors.
- Take ownership of the design and technical transfer of line tools to Tesla Operations.
- Qualify tools to ensure they meet standards for safety, quality, and output.
What you'll need#
- Current enrollment in a degree program for Mechanical Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Mechatronics, or a related field.
- Hands-on experience and a solid grasp of engineering fundamentals.
- Proficiency in CAD software such as CATIA or SOLIDWORKS.
- Experience with 3D modeling and creating 2D part and assembly drawings.
- Familiarity with semi-automated or automated manufacturing equipment in a high-volume factory environment.
- Experience designing tooling, jigs, and fixtures.
- Knowledge of Design for Manufacturability (DFM) and Design for Assembly (DFA).
- Understanding of Geometric Design and Tolerance (GD&T).
- Familiarity with statistical tools like Process Capability (Cp, Cpk) and Gauge Repeatability and Reproducibility.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
