About the role#
Mechanical Design Engineering interns participate in every stage of the mechanical design process. You will handle design, analysis, prototyping, and the validation of components and systems for Tesla vehicles. You will contribute to a range of projects based on current team needs, developing creative solutions to meet quality and cost targets. This role involves working with cross-functional partners, external vendors, and suppliers.
What you'll do#
Your work will support teams across several departments, including Battery Pack, Chassis, Dimensional Engineering, Drive Systems, Electronic Devices, Exteriors and Interiors, Hardware, New Programs, Powertrain, Semi Truck, Structures, and Thermal Engineering.
What you'll need#
- Current enrollment in a degree program for Mechanical Engineering, Automotive Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, Mechatronics, or a related field.
- Proficiency in 3D CAD software. Experience with CATIA is a plus.
- Experience creating engineering drawings. Knowledge of GD&T is a plus.
- A strong grasp of engineering fundamentals.
- Proven interest in mechanical design through academic projects, extracurricular activities, or passion projects. Automotive or sustainability interest is a plus.
- Ability to work independently and collaborate with cross-functional teams.
- A detail-oriented and execution-focused mindset.
- Curiosity about how products are designed, built, and operated.
Location & details#
- Locations: Fremont, CA; Palo Alto, CA; Austin, TX; Reno, NV.
- Term: Winter 2027 and Spring 2027.
- Commitment: This is a full-time, on-site internship requiring 40 hours per week for at least 12 weeks.
- Compensation: This is a paid internship.
