About the role#
The Vehicle Human Factors and Ergonomics team at the Tesla Design Studio is looking for an engineering student to help develop occupant packaging and ergonomic solutions. You will work alongside engineering, design, and program management teams to ensure our vehicles meet high standards for spatial efficiency, comfort, and legislative requirements.
What you'll do#
- Research ways to create comfortable and usable spaces for drivers and passengers.
- Develop, validate, and maintain vehicle occupant packages and ergonomic criteria.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams to implement ergonomic solutions.
- Perform digital and physical assessments of design proposals against established criteria.
- Develop and run focus studies to confirm ergonomic compliance.
What you'll need#
- Current enrollment in a Mechanical Engineering, Ergonomic Engineering, or related degree program.
- Experience with CAD software, specifically CATIA V6 and V5.
- Understanding of rapid fabrication methods like 3D printing and hand fabrication.
- Experience in occupant packaging, human factors, or product usability is preferred.
- Knowledge of CAVA and RAMSIS is preferred.
- Familiarity with automotive design studio workflows, engineering guidelines, laws, and manufacturing techniques is a plus.
Location & details#
- Location: Hawthorne, California.
- Term: Winter 2027 (January through May 2027).
- Modality: Full-time, on-site (40 hours per week).
- Duration: Minimum of 12 weeks.
- Compensation: Paid internship.
