About the role#
Terafab is a vertically integrated semiconductor factory. We are building it to handle logic, memory, packaging, test, and mask production in one facility. As an Equipment Engineer, you will own the procurement, installation, qualification, and performance of our advanced process tools. You will work across these domains to ensure our equipment is reliable and ready for production.
What you'll do#
- Manage semiconductor process equipment from vendor selection through IQ, OQ, and PQ.
- Oversee tool installation projects, including utility hookup sequencing and readiness milestones.
- Partner with OEM vendors to evaluate equipment architecture, assess mechanical risk, and influence tool specifications.
- Develop and execute equipment qualification plans, including tool-to-tool matching and performance baselines.
- Establish preventive maintenance programs, spare parts strategies, and equipment uptime KPIs.
- Identify root causes of equipment issues, such as vacuum integrity, thermal expansion, and subsystem interactions.
- Design equipment upgrades and work with internal teams to carry them out.
- Collaborate with Process and Automation Engineers to resolve equipment-related process excursions and yield impacts.
What you'll need#
- Current enrollment in a degree program for Mechanical Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering, or a related technical field.
- Hands-on experience installing, qualifying, and supporting at least two types of advanced process tools.
- Understanding of semiconductor systems like gas delivery, vacuum, RF plasma, temperature control, and recipe management.
- Knowledge of mechanical and electromechanical design principles.
- Ability to read and interpret mechanical drawings, schematics, and OEM design documentation.
- Proficiency with equipment data systems, including FDC rule development, equipment health monitoring, and predictive maintenance.
Location & details#
- Location: Austin, Texas.
- Schedule: Full-time (40 hours per week), on-site.
- Duration: This internship begins in September 2026. It lasts through December 2026, with potential for extension into Winter or Spring 2027.
