About the role#
The Cell Engineering team at Tesla is looking for an intern to help improve our understanding of battery cell technology. You will work on projects that directly impact the reliability of new cell designs. This role requires working on-site in Palo Alto, contributing to the development of computer vision pipelines and data analytics for battery cell imagery.
What you'll do#
- Build backend, frontend, datasets, and tools to automate complex image analysis.
- Design, train, and deploy computer vision and deep learning models for defect detection, classification, and segmentation of cell images.
- Maintain scalable machine learning pipelines and containerized model deployments in production.
- Collaborate with engineers on end-to-end analyses, covering everything from data requirement gathering to modeling.
What you'll need#
- Currently pursuing a degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Data Engineering, Data Science, or a related field.
- Significant technical contributions to past projects.
- Hands-on experience with deep learning frameworks like PyTorch or TensorFlow.
- Knowledge of modern computer vision architectures, including CNNs, Vision Transformers, and segmentation or detection models.
- Proficiency in Python, SQL, and Git.
- MLOps skills covering data curation, training, experiment tracking, CI/CD, deployment, and monitoring.
- Experience with modern AI tools, such as coding assistants and vision-language models.
- Familiarity with classic image feature extraction techniques.
- Strong communication skills and a collaborative approach to problem-solving.
Location & details#
- Location: Palo Alto, California.
- Term: Winter 2027 and Spring 2027.
- Commitment: Full-time (40 hours per week) on-site for a minimum of 12 weeks.
- Eligibility: Open to students actively enrolled in an academic program.
