About the role#
This internship is a cross-functional role within the Audio and Sensing teams. You will help develop features for Tesla vehicles by working with existing sensors and hardware. This position requires you to be on-site in Palo Alto, California, for a full-time, 40-hour work week. The internship spans the Winter and Spring 2027 terms, with a minimum commitment of 12 weeks starting in January 2027.
What you'll do#
- Debug and maintain software used for data capture and storage.
- Train large-scale machine learning models for computer vision and object tracking.
- Validate models by using ground truth from real-world datasets and mechanical test jigs.
- Support the development of audio DSP algorithms.
What you'll need#
- Current enrollment in a degree program for Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, Software Engineering, Computer Engineering, or a related field.
- Strong coding skills in Python (numpy, pandas) and C/C++.
- Proficiency with PyTorch, including the ability to read, modify, and train models with custom architectures and data pipelines.
- Experience with model training, validation, and metrics like MAE or Huber loss, ideally using PyTorch Lightning.
- Knowledge of deep learning fundamentals, specifically neural networks and CNNs applied to spatial data.
- Experience with audio DSP principles, acoustics, and human hearing.
- Background in computer vision, particularly with 3D point cloud data.
- Familiarity with camera hardware and calibration techniques.
- Familiarity with MATLAB.
- Experience with embedded audio projects, CAD, or personal DIY projects is preferred.

- Compensation: $20.00 - $50.00 per hour plus benefits.
