About the role#
As a Process Engineer Intern in the Terafab wet etch group, you will contribute to building a vertically integrated semiconductor factory. You will work on wet clean and etch processes for three specific chip families: edge-inference processors, space-hardened chips for satellites, and high-bandwidth memory. This role focuses on controlling selectivity, uniformity, and defectivity across materials ranging from silicon and dielectrics to metals.
What you'll do#
- Develop and qualify wet etch and wet clean processes for critical applications like oxide, nitride, silicon, and metal layer removal.
- Manage bath chemistry formulation, concentration, temperature, and process window optimization for isotropic and selective etch steps.
- Assist with the installation of wet process tools, including bench qualification, chamber seasoning, and particle control.
- Use a first-principles, physics-based approach to analyze processes.
- Perform root cause analysis to establish inline metrology and control strategies for yield improvement.
- Drive the development of next-generation wet chemistry formulations.
What you'll need#
- Current enrollment in a degree program for Chemical Engineering, Materials Science, Electrical Engineering, Physics, or a related field.
- Interest in hands-on wet etch engineering within a semiconductor fab.
- Understanding of wet chemistries and their interactions in manufacturing.
- Experience with wet process metrology tools, such as particle counters, defect inspection, film thickness measurement, and surface analysis.
- Strong skills in Design of Experiments and statistical analysis.
- Ability to collaborate across lithography, etch, thin films, integration, and equipment engineering teams.
Location & details#
- Location: Austin, Texas.
- Term: Winter 2027 through Spring 2027.
- Commitment: Full-time, 40 hours per week, on-site.
- Eligibility: This is a paid internship for students actively enrolled in an academic program.
