About the role#
This internship focuses on the development, commissioning, and deployment of inline metrology systems for cell manufacturing. You will work within a cross-functional engineering team to achieve manufacturing readiness for these systems. Responsibilities include system design, fabrication, data processing, and material characterization. You will contribute to projects that support the production of battery cells for vehicles and energy storage systems.
What you'll do#
- Pair with engineers to support the development and deployment of inline metrology systems from proof-of-concept to high-volume production.
- Develop software solutions for data pipelines, including LLM and RAG solutions for documentation management.
- Work hands-on with pilot process equipment to improve metrology and understand core fundamentals.
- Support metrology installation and commissioning on new production lines while interacting with suppliers.
- Perform metrology measurements for engineering design of experiments to assist in process optimization.
What you'll need#
- An engineering degree in Physics, Optics, Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Mechatronics, Computer Science, Automation, Materials Science, or a related field.
- Strong understanding of engineering fundamentals, applied physics, applied mathematics, and statistics.
- Experience in at least one of the following: material characterization, optics and optical sensor development (infrared to UV), X-ray characterization tools, mechanical design (SolidWorks), or data engineering (Python, Go, SQL, MATLAB, Tableau).
- Ability to perform data-driven root cause analysis and simplify technical concepts for cross-functional teams.
- Familiarity with battery or cell manufacturing, PLC programming (Siemens, Beckhoff, Rockwell), Six Sigma, and measurement system analysis is a plus.
- Excellent teamwork skills and a willingness to learn.
Location & details#
- Location: Fremont, California.
- Modality: On-site, full-time (40 hours per week).
- Terms: Winter 2027, Spring 2027, or Summer 2027.
- Duration: Minimum of 12 weeks.
