About the role#
This 8-month co-op position focuses on supporting machine learning and computer vision initiatives for geological and geotechnical drill-core logging and downhole imagery. You will work alongside structural geologists, geoscientists, and geotechnical engineers to test, validate, and implement automated logging tools. This role offers the opportunity to connect structural geology with digital innovation while receiving mentorship in a collaborative office environment.
What you'll do#
- Act as a safety leader by adhering to and sponsoring safety and environmental rules.
- Support machine learning and computer vision workflows for automated drill core logging, including Rock Quality Designation, Fracture Frequency, and televiewer interpretation.
- Prepare training and evaluation datasets for machine learning model development.
- Test and validate automated results from models while assessing data quality and limitations.
- Contribute to developing workflows and standard processes for integrating automated tools into project work.
- Communicate findings, insights, and recommendations to the project team.
- Support the integration of structural data into 3D geological models.
- Assist with additional structural or geotechnical tasks as needed.
What you'll need#
- Current enrollment in a co-op program in Geology, Geological Engineering, or a related field.
- Strong interest in structural geology, rock mass characterization, or geotechnical applications.
- Curiosity about or exposure to machine learning, computer vision, or geoscience automation.
- Comfort working with large datasets and technical software.
- Ability to work independently and collaborate in a multidisciplinary team.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills with high attention to detail.
- Experience with drill core logging, televiewer interpretation, 3D geological modelling software, and RQD or fracture frequency schemes is an asset.
- Previous experience in mining or geotechnical projects is a plus.

- Location: Vancouver, British Columbia.
- Work Modality: Hybrid.
- Duration: 8 months, starting January 4, 2027.
- Compensation: CAD $4,833 - $6,125 per month.
