About the role#
The Data Protection Operations Co-op supports the day-to-day operation of Microsoft Purview data protection controls. You will assist with monitoring, reporting, governance, and operational assurance processes. This role provides hands-on experience in information protection, data loss prevention (DLP), sensitivity labeling, compliance monitoring, and Microsoft 365 governance. You will work alongside Data Protection Operations, Security, Privacy, and IT teams to maintain control efficiency and improve our ability to detect and address data protection risks.
What you'll do#
- Act as a safety leader by adhering to and sponsoring safety and environmental rules.
- Monitor and report on Microsoft Purview DLP alerts, policy activity, and operational metrics.
- Analyze DLP trends, false positives, recurring issues, and policy performance.
- Support quality assurance for sensitivity labels and auto-labeling activities.
- Prepare dashboards, scorecards, and reporting packages for governance reviews and leadership.
- Maintain evidence repositories and support audit readiness activities.
- Track operational action items and remediation initiatives.
- Document procedures, job aids, and process improvements.
- Research Microsoft Purview capabilities and emerging data protection trends.
What you'll need#
- Current enrollment in an undergraduate degree in Cybersecurity, Information Management, Business, or a related field at a Canadian post-secondary institution.
- Ability to return to studies for at least one academic term following the co-op.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with an interest in cybersecurity and business processes.
- Intermediate to advanced Microsoft Excel skills, including the ability to analyze and summarize data.
- Strong attention to detail and ability to monitor, investigate, and respond to cybersecurity trends.
- Ability to work independently, manage multiple projects, and meet competing deadlines.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
- Experience creating documentation, policies, or reports.
- Commitment to fostering a respectful and inclusive workplace.
- Power BI experience is considered an asset.

- Employment Type: Temporary Full Time.
- Compensation: CAD $4,108 - $5,183 per month, plus financial assistance for travel and co-op fees.
