    About the role#

    This internship position is part of the Corporate Technology Center Process Design Group. You will support research and development for polymer materials and processing technologies, including extrusion, compounding, and foaming. The role runs during the Summer 2027 term and is based on-site in Fremont, California.

    What you'll do#

    • Run polymer processing experiments focused on extrusion, compounding, foaming, and process development.
    • Characterize polymer materials to assess how formulation and processing affect structure and properties.
    • Analyze experimental data using DOE, JMP, Python, statistics, and visualization to optimize processes and drive recommendations.
    • Apply AI and advanced analytics to accelerate experimentation, enhance process understanding, and support engineering decisions.
    • Document procedures and results, prepare technical reports, and create presentations.
    • Perform literature reviews and technology scouting to support engineering decisions.

    What you'll need#

    • Currently pursuing a BS, MS, or Ph.D. in Plastics Engineering, Polymer Science, Materials Science, Chemical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or a related field.
    • Strong foundation in polymeric materials and polymer processing.
    • Hands-on experience with extrusion, compounding, foaming, injection molding, or related processing technologies.
    • Understanding of material-process-property relationships.
    • Experience with or interest in Design of Experiments, statistical analysis, and data-driven engineering.
    • Familiarity with AI tools, machine learning concepts, or AI-assisted engineering workflows.
    • Ability to work independently and within multidisciplinary teams.
    • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
    • Experience with JMP or Python is preferred.
    • Prior internship, research, or laboratory experience related to polymer materials or manufacturing process development is a plus.
