SUNY Ulster is seeking a Student Success Counselor to join the New Start team. This role focuses on providing holistic support, mentoring, and academic advising to a caseload of students, with a specific emphasis on adult learners. The counselor acts as a primary point of contact from admission to completion, helping students develop academic and career plans while ensuring they have access to necessary community resources.
What you'll do#
- Manage a caseload of students, providing counseling on academic progress and personal wellness.
- Assist students in accessing public benefits and connecting with community resources for food, housing, and childcare.
- Implement proactive advising models and conduct student intake interviews.
- Develop and facilitate professional skills workshops with relevant, timely content.
- Collect and analyze data to inform service delivery and improve the overall student experience.
- Coordinate the four-week New Start summer program.
- Collaborate with campus wellness and success offices to ensure comprehensive student support.
What you'll need#
- A Bachelor’s Degree in education, student development, social work, or a related field.
- At least two years of experience in advising, recruitment, retention, or related student services.
- A proven track record of supporting students or clients in overcoming academic or personal challenges.
- Experience working with first-generation, low-income, non-traditional, and at-risk student populations.
- Proficiency in information technology, including Microsoft Office suite, and experience using technology for case management.
- Excellent oral and written communication skills.
Location & details#
- Location: Stone Ridge, New York.
- Work Modality: On-site.
- Employment Type: Full-time, 35 hours per week.
- Term: Grant-funded through August 31, 2026, with the possibility of extension.
- Schedule: May require occasional evening or weekend hours to support adult student schedules and community events.
