About the role#
Sun Life is seeking a Student Business Process Analyst to join the Enterprise Data Governance Office. This role focuses on supporting the design and improvement of data governance processes, including regulatory compliance, metadata management, and data quality monitoring. You will work across the organization to drive efficient, lean, and automated process designs that meet regulatory standards.
What you'll do#
- Document, analyze, and optimize business processes for regulatory data compliance, metadata lifecycle management, and data quality assessment.
- Collaborate with data stewards, compliance officers, IT, and business units to gather requirements and map current and future-state processes.
- Support the automation of manual tasks using workflow tools and platforms.
- Create process documentation, SOPs, and user guides.
- Participate in continuous improvement initiatives using Lean process design.
- Monitor key data governance KPIs and provide recommendations based on data insights.
- Research and evaluate processes against data governance regulations, frameworks, and industry standards.
What you'll need#
- Foundational understanding of or interest in data governance principles like metadata, data quality, and data ownership.
- Interest or coursework in regulatory frameworks such as GDPR, OSFI, HIPA, or SOX.
- Strong analytical, organizational, and problem-solving skills.
- Proficiency in Excel and the ability to write clearly and concisely.
- Familiarity with SQL or data analysis tools is an asset.
- Exposure to process modeling tools such as Visio or Lucidchart is a plus.
- Willingness to learn Data Governance tools like Collibra and Informatica Data Quality.
- Ability to work in a matrix environment, adapt to ambiguity, and build relationships across departments.
- Strong communication skills with the ability to present information clearly.
- A mindset focused on efficiency, simplification, and continuous improvement.
