About the role#
Stantec is seeking a Civil Engineering Intern to join our multi-disciplinary water resources team in Chandler, Arizona. You will work alongside experienced practitioners to support local design staff on water and wastewater infrastructure projects. This role involves a mix of office-based technical work and field investigations, providing hands-on experience in the planning, design, and construction phases of water projects.
What you'll do#
- Collect and organize data for engineering reports and technical studies.
- Prepare calculations, charts, and graphs.
- Perform modeling using Excel or hydraulic modeling software.
- Draft drawings and backcheck technical memoranda corrections.
- Assist with the development of plans and exhibits using CADD and GIS software.
- Support the design of municipal water and wastewater conveyance pipelines, lift stations, and stormwater drainage structures.
- Participate in multi-disciplinary team meetings and assist with permit applications.
- Coordinate report production and support construction phase activities.
- Engage in client interactions, presentations, and note taking.
- Write portions of technical memoranda and assist with proposal and resume writing.
What you'll need#
- Progress toward a Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in civil, environmental, biosystems, or water resources engineering.
- Completion of at least 2 years of undergraduate coursework with a minimum 3.0 GPA.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Word and Excel.
- A valid driver’s license.
- A minimum commitment of 10 hours per week.
- Strong written and oral communication skills.
- Coursework or exposure to hydraulics, hydraulic modeling, water/wastewater treatment, or conveyance infrastructure.
- Experience with AutoCAD, Revit, Civil 3D, or PowerPoint is preferred.
- Ability to work flexibly within a team and take initiative.
