Oscar Renda Contracting is seeking a Civil/Structural Engineering co-op student for the North End Sewage Treatment Plant (NEWPCC) Biosolids Facility project in Winnipeg, Manitoba. This role provides hands-on experience on a major capital infrastructure project, involving the construction of new biosolids processing facilities. You will work alongside the site engineering team to support construction activities, quality control, and field engineering for the duration of the Fall 2026 term.
What you'll do#
- Review structural and civil drawings, specifications, and shop drawings.
- Support quality control and quality assurance activities for concrete, structural steel, and civil works.
- Conduct field inspections and document construction progress.
- Assist with material take-offs, quantity tracking, and progress reporting.
- Support RFI (Request for Information) tracking and coordination with design engineers.
- Maintain as-built documentation and project records.
- Participate in site safety meetings and adhere to all site safety protocols.
- Assist project engineers and superintendents with daily field engineering tasks and scheduling.
What you'll need#
- Current enrollment in a Civil, Structural, Environmental, or Mechanical Engineering or Architecture degree program (3rd or 4th year preferred).
- Strong understanding of structural and civil engineering fundamentals, including concrete, steel, and foundations.
- Proficiency with AutoCAD and/or Civil 3D is considered an asset.
- Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
- Effective written and verbal communication skills.
- Ability to work both independently and as part of a multidisciplinary team.
- Willingness to work on an active heavy civil construction site.
- A valid driver's license is considered an asset.
Location & details#
- Location: On-site at the NEWPCC facility in Winnipeg, Manitoba.
- Term: Fall 2026 (September – December).
- Schedule: Full-time, Monday–Friday (occasional weekend work may be required based on the construction schedule).
- Compensation: This is a paid position.
