About the role#
Southland Holdings is seeking a Civil/Structural Engineering co-op student for the North End Sewage Treatment Plant (NEWPCC) Biosolids Facility project in Winnipeg, Manitoba. This role provides hands-on experience on a major municipal infrastructure project, working alongside the site engineering team to support construction, quality control, and field engineering tasks.
What you'll do#
- Assist with reviewing structural and civil drawings, specifications, and shop drawings.
- Support quality control and quality assurance activities for concrete, structural steel, and civil works.
- Conduct field inspections and document construction progress.
- Assist with material take-offs, quantity tracking, and progress reporting.
- Support RFI (Request for Information) tracking and coordination with design engineers.
- Help maintain as-built documentation and project records.
- Participate in site safety meetings and adhere to all site safety protocols.
- Assist project engineers and superintendents with day-to-day field engineering tasks.
- Support scheduling and coordination activities as required.
What you'll need#
- Currently enrolled in a Civil, Structural, Environmental, or Mechanical Engineering or Architecture degree program (3rd or 4th year preferred).
- Strong understanding of structural and civil engineering fundamentals including concrete, steel, and foundations.
- Proficiency with AutoCAD or Civil 3D is considered an asset.
- Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
- Effective written and verbal communication skills.
- Ability to work both independently and as part of a multidisciplinary team.
- Willingness to work on an active heavy civil construction site.
- A valid driver's license is considered an asset.
Location & details#
- Location: On-site at the NEWPCC facility in Winnipeg, Manitoba.
- Term: Fall 2026 (September to December).
- Schedule: Full-time, Monday to Friday, with occasional weekend work required based on the construction schedule.
