About the role#
Simpson Gumpertz & Heger is hiring a Technical Intern for the Summer 2027 term in Houston, Texas. This is a full-time, on-site position where you will work alongside engineers to gain hands-on experience by applying your academic knowledge to real-world structural engineering projects.
What you'll do#
- Work on structural engineering projects, including building evaluations, designs, and marine terminal designs.
- Collaborate with engineers to perform reconnaissance on existing structures, conduct field tests, and monitor construction in progress.
- Organize field data and assist with research to support analysis, problem solving, and repair design.
- Perform analysis using a combination of hand calculations and software under the guidance of licensed professionals.
- Assist with the preparation of client deliverables, such as construction documents, specifications, calculation packages, and reports.
- Participate in field work and travel to construction sites as needed.
What you'll need#
- Current pursuit of a degree in civil or structural engineering.
- A record of high academic achievement.
- Interest in gaining hands-on experience within a consulting engineering environment.
- Enthusiasm for developing sophisticated engineering work products.
- Strong leadership and communication abilities.
