About the role#
STV is seeking a Structural Engineering Intern for the Summer 2027 term. This position offers undergraduate and graduate students the chance to work alongside our engineering team on infrastructure projects. You will gain exposure to both office-based design work and on-site field activities.
What you'll do#
- Assist in the design and analysis of bridges and other structures.
- Prepare design calculations, construction drawings, and technical reports.
- Participate in the inspection and rating of existing structures to ensure safety compliance.
- Collaborate with senior engineers to organize, interpret, and present design information.
- Assist in the preparation of project documentation, including proposals and presentations.
- Apply industry standards and best practices to structural design and inspection tasks.
What you'll need#
- Current enrollment in a bachelor’s or master’s degree program in civil engineering at an ABET-accredited university or NCEES equivalent.
- Experience in the architecture, engineering, or construction management industry.
- Familiarity with bridge inspection procedures and load rating calculations.
- Exposure to structural analysis software such as SAP2000, MIDAS, or CSI Bridge.
- Proficiency in drafting and detailing tools like AutoCAD, MicroStation, or Revit.
- Understanding of AASHTO and DOT standards.
- Knowledge of structural materials including steel, concrete, timber, and masonry, as well as their deterioration mechanisms.
- Basic knowledge of non-destructive testing methods for bridge inspections.

- Location: Austin, Texas.
- Modality: Hybrid, with at least 3 days per week in the office.
- Term: Summer 2027.
- Employment: Full-time internship.
